Description
Meenakari, also called enamelling, is the art of decorating a metal surface by fusing mineral substances to it. Meenakari was introduced to India by the Mughal kings in the early 16th century. So, this delicately designed anklet comes from workmanship which dates back to some 400 hundred years.

The meenakari work is very similar in craftsmanship to the miniature design and coloring on the famous Faberge eggs. The design is etched into the metal and then the 'meenakar' or the artist applies the color that has to be fired [at 750 to 850 degrees Centigrade], for it to be fixed onto the metal. Once cooled, it is then burnished or polished with agate and tamarind solution.

This particular piece of work is inspired by the meenakari work from a town called Jaipur.

Truly a work of beauty.

India’s textile, fabric, jewellery & craft traditions go down centuries- the talent of the craftsman and his or her dedication to the craft, passed on from one generation to another. A weave, a mix of colors, a design or a motif, a print, a piece of applique work- each a labor of love for the artisan

Artikrti’s [meaning 'artistic creations'] mission is to take the fascinating kaleidoscope that is India and get the world outside to experience it. And add a stroke of beauty that’s different, to each woman’s life- to her personal beauty and her home.
