Description

Kalamkari- the art of handpainting on fabric. The art of kalamkari is said to be over 3000 years old and gets its name from "kalam" which means pen and "kari" which is the word for work. So kalamkari is really 'penwork'. The kalamkari, handpainted cloths of Sri Kalahasti, Andra Pradesh, works of art drawn entirely by hand, were originally created predominantly for the temples as narrative murals. These murals tell the stories of the great Hindu epics in picture form. In addition to the epic murals, the Tree of Life theme is very popular and comes in many forms.

This never-seen-before design features a kalamkari design in earthy green tones at each end with a central ikat design in royal purple. A mix that gives it a rich, elegant, contemporary-classic look for that real special evening or as a gift for that real special lady.

This stand-out piece is rare to come by. Undoubtedly a shawl that makes a statement of exquisite beauty, for the lady whose beauty needs no statement.

India’s textile & fabric traditions go down centuries- the talent of the craftsman and his dedication to his craft, passed on from one generation to another. A weave, a mix of colors, a design or a motif, a print, a piece of applique work- each a labor of love for the artisan, in giving birth to his creation.

Artikrti’s [meaning 'artistic creations'] mission is to take the fascinating kaleidoscope that is India and get the world outside to experience it. And add a stroke of beauty that’s different, to each woman’s life- to her personal beauty and her home.

Thank you for dropping in. In true Indian tradition, we hope your visit to Artikrti was a pleasurable one and we do hope to see you again in the future.
